Carnival Dream Recap: Embarkation Day

I figured I'd go ahead and start my recaps of our honeymoon for you today.  I have a feeling these recaps are going to make a lot of you want to take a cruise!  And I don't blame you.  I easily could have stayed on the ship for another week (or two).

This is going to be a dumbed down recap because I'm sure a lot of you probably don't care about cruising as much as me.  I will be writing a full recap with even more pictures over on the Cruise Critic forums.  Here is the link if you are interested in following along:

We got into Port Canaveral on Friday night and stayed at the Radisson hotel.  If you book a night there before or after your cruise, you can leave your car there and take the shuttle over to the port.  It makes it so much easier and cheaper than parking at the cruise terminal.

We got a shuttle for 11am and heading on over to the cruise terminal.  Check in was a breeze and we were through there in about 30 minutes.  They make you fill out a form about whether you have been sick lately or come into contact with H1N1.  I'm not sure how many people actually tell the truth on those forms.

Since we got on the ship so early, our rooms weren't open yet, so we went straight up to the Lido deck to grab lunch.  I wanted to check out the pasta bar before everyone else on the ship found it, so that's where we went.  The lunch was delicious, but there was way too much of it.  J got chicken alfredo and I got penne with clam sauce.

After lunch, we lounged around deck for a little while until our cabin was open.

We were able to get into our room a little after 1:30pm.  We booked room 7448, which is an L-shaped cabin.  It is the same price as a normal balcony room, but the way it is shaped causes it to have twice as big of a balcony as the regular rooms.  It was wonderful!

After muster drill was over, we started sailing away.  It took us a good while to get out of Port Canaveral, so we just sat on our balcony and watched as we left.

We were assigned to a table with about 8 other people, so we went and talked to the Maitre de' to try and get our table changed.  He said he couldn't do it for that night, but would let us know by the next day if we could get changed to a table for 2.  We decided to skip dinner in the dining room and eat dinner on the Lido deck instead.

When we got back from dinner, we found our first towel animal waiting for us.  It was a bunny rabbit.

We went to the Welcome Aboard show where they introduced us to some of the shows that were going to be performed later in the cruise.  They had all the dancers on stage as well as the first two comedians.  It was very entertaining.

After the Welcome Aboard show, they had a deck party up on the Lido.  They had a bunch of dancing as well as a laser light show.  That was really cool to see.  The Dream is the only ship in the Carnival fleet with a laser light show.

After the deck party, we were worn out from all the traveling, so we went ahead to bed.  We had a fun sea day ahead of us.
