The Wedding Blog for the style Obsessed Bride

Guest Post: Boudoir Photography

Hi bloggers! My name is Kelly Williams, and I’m a wedding and portrait photographer from South Georgia. I’m thrilled that Ashley is having me do a post for her blog. We got to know one another because I was her photographer for her boudoir portrait session, but I admit that ever since I’ve been keeping up to date with her wedding adventures through this blog.

One of the topics that Ashley and I discussed was the concept of boudoir photography. Ever since I got married 5 years ago (I am a knottie from WAY back), it seems to be a hot topic for girls planning their wedding. I’m sure you’ve all read reviews or heard experiences from other brides. I thought it might be neat to hear about it from the other side of the camera. :)
Boudoir photography is a perfect idea for any bride considering wedding gift ideas for their husband-to-be. Sure, cuff links are cool, but boudoir portraits are HAUTE! Boudoir is a french term that means a woman's dressing room, the spot where women feel most vulnerable. Boudoir photography is a concept that I became excited about as I considered a situation in which any woman could express her creativity and celebrate her own beauty. Beauty that isn't compared to magazine models, beauty that is only viewable to her mate. Most brides are reluctant to get boudoir portraits done at first, but I can't tell you how excited they are when they receive their album in the mail with their amazing images. Really, it's like a magazine centerfold with pages all about YOU. What a self-esteem boost, right?

Here are a few questions that are popular regarding boudoir sessions...

1. When should I schedule my boudoir session? I recommend that all brides schedule their boudoir session about six months before their wedding. Reasoning behind this is to allow plenty of time for your photographer to edit your images, for you to select your favorites, and for your album or prints to be made.

2. What if I'm a little shy? Everyone is nervous when it comes to taking your clothes off... especially in front of a camera. By the time I have my sessions with clients, it honestly feels like I'm getting together with one of my girlfriends. My goal is to make you feel as comfortable as possible. Nervousness is inevitable. But we take it slow. Most girls start off with the most clothing, and as comfort levels increase, more skin is revealed. I never do anything that would make a client uncomfortable.

3. Do you show my images to anyone? Nope. Never. Nada. Well, my professional lab HAS to see them since they made the album, but no one I or you know will ever see them.

4. What if I don't feel or look like a Victoria Secret model? My intention isn't to make you look like Heidi Klum... my intention is to capture my clients in their raw beauty. Every woman is beautiful. Everyone woman is a supermodel.
Here's what a recent boudoir client said about her experience: "A few months before my wedding I decided to do a boudoir session for a gift to give to my husband. I was extremely nervous about it, but Kelly was great at making me feel comfortable. The pictures turned out sexy and tasteful, and my husband absolutely loved the gift. I would definitely recommend this to other brides because it is a great gift that both you and your husband will enjoy."
