I'm going to do a feature this week about how to get the honeymoon you want while still sticking within your budget.
The first honeymoon I'm going to tell you about is the one we took, a Caribbean cruise. This is one of the most cost effective ways to travel to a different country.
Normally, the cheapest cruise line to sail with is Carnival Cruise Lines. Their ships range from smaller and more intimate to huge! They also sail out of a lot of different ports in the United States, so you don't have to worry about getting to Florida to take a cruise.
The shorter the cruise, the cheaper the rate normally is. Also, the lower decks and cheaper cabin categories are normally cheaper. You can book an interior room on the bottom deck for under $400 per person on a lot of cruises.
Most cruise lines provide your lodging, the majority of your food, and entertainment in your cruise cost. Alcohol, specialty foods, shore excursions, and tips are extra. Make sure to budget for these when trying to decide on how much you're going to spend on your honeymoon.
If you want to take shore excursions at your ports, you're better off booking with an independent tour guide. Check out the Cruise Critic message board if you need help finding a reputable tour guide. Also, make sure to keep your watch on ship time so that you do not miss the ship. It's costly to have to catch a plane to meet them at the next port.
If you have any questions about cruises, please feel free to leave a comment or send me an email. We take a lot of cruise vacations, so I'm pretty knowledgeable about them, especially Carnival Cruise Line.
