Rice Throwing Alternatives

The tradition of throwing items at the couples during their wedding stems back to an old tradition in ancient Rome.  The custom is intended to give a couple good luck as well as fertility.

Throwing rice at a wedding has recently been frowned upon due to the urban legend that it will cause birds to explode if they eat uncooked rice.

So, even the urban legend has been debunked, if you still don't want to throw rice at your wedding, here are a few more ideas.

We did bubbles at our wedding because our venue didn't allow us to throw anything or use fireworks.  Our guests blew bubbles at us during the last dance.  Make sure your photographer knows that you're planning on doing bubbles because they can be hard to photograph and you want them to be prepared.

Sparklers make a gorgeous exit, but sadly a lot of venues don't allow it because of the fire hazard.  You can stock up on sparklers really cheap after New Years and Fourth of July.  Just make sure to store them in a cool dry location.

If you want the same feel as a rice throw, try confetti.  You can even make your own to save a ton of money on your budget.

Make sure before you make your decision on what kind of exit you want to check with your venue.  They may have regulations on what you are allowed to use.  It's not very budget friendly to have to pay a hefty fine after your wedding for breaking their rules.
